Binge Reading On A Reality Funk

When  I’m  not  in  the  throes  of  bashing  out  a  first  draft,  my  Sundays  are  often  spent  reading.  And  for  the  past  few  weeks  that’s  what  I’ve  been  doing,  all  because  I  fell  in  love  with  Cambria  Hebert’s  Hashtag  Series.  After  reading  all  four  of  those  books  in  just as  many  days,  I’ve  been  left  with  an  American  football  player-sized hole  in  my  heart.  Nothing  else  I  read  is  filling  that  gap  while  I  wait  for  the  fifth  book  to  be  released  later  this  month.  (YAY)  You  see,  I’ve  been  spoiled.  How  was  I  to  know  when  I  first  picked  up  #Nerd  that  I’d  fall  in  deep  down  the  fictional  tunnel?  The  characters  captivated  my  attention  so  badly  that  even  after  a  couple  of  weeks  I’m  still  not  ready  to  let  that  piece  of  me  go.  I’m  being  held  hostage.

I’m  positive  all  book  lovers  know  what  I’m  talking  about.  It’s  that  complete  euphoria  of  fulfillment  at  having  discovered  a  new  treasure.  We’re  all  literary  pirates  –  our  eyes  gleam  in  reflection  of  the  gold  sitting  pretty  in  our  hands.  Those  beautiful  covers  are  the  visual  enticement  to  our  addiction.  They  beg  to  be  read.

Writers  are  readers  whose  love  for  words  never  stop  at  the  last  page.  The  story  might  be  finished  but  the  writer  isn’t  done.  I’m  constantly  waking  up  with  complex  sentences  formulating  paragraphs  rolling  around  my  mind,  desperate  to  create  awe-inspiring  moments  for  like-minded  readers.  And  all  that  lexis  comes  from  somewhere.

Books.

To  learn.  To  nourish.  To  satisfy.

I’m  stuck  in  a  reading  binge  funk.  I  have  plenty  of  books  lined  up,  but  nothing’s  grabbing  my  attention.  I  have  to  be  in  the  right  mood  for  a  particular  genre.  Right  now,  I’m  stuck  in  New  Adult  land.  You  see,  it’s  that  hole  in  my  heart  that  needs  patching  up  with  new  words.  I  need  a  new  set  of  friends  while  my  others  are  on  hiatus.

So  here’s  what  I  want  to  know  from  you.  What  are  you  currently  reading?  What  genre  is  it?  And  what’s  your  absolute  favourite  book?  The  one  that  made  you  fall  in  love  with  reading. I  know  it’s  a  tough  question.  I  don’t  even  know  if  I  have  one  myself.

Announcement:  The  winners  of  Alpha  Wanted:  The  Complete  Serial  paperback  have  been  chosen.

CONGRATULATIONS  to  Cindy  of  Indy  Book  Fairy  and  Myra  of  MsMe28!

Seven-11 Blog Hop

Seven 11 blog hop

By now you know what it means when the 11th of each month comes about. It’s all about tantalisingly teasing you with snippets from projects in the works and published ones, too. This month I have a teaser from Alpha Wanted:Part 2, the serial that as of yesterday is out in its entirety. Oh, and did I mention part 1 is FREE on Amazon for a few days only? Though I know this teaser is longer than the proposed seven lines, I couldn’t stop myself from revealing it all. Also, this happens to be taken from one of Ryker’s POV chapters. Enjoy!

“I  just  gave  up  my  shirt  to  save  you.   You  could  be  more  of  a  gentleman  about  it  you  know.”  Kira  folded  her  arms  across  her  chest,   but  I  could  see  the  approval  in  her  eyes.  She  liked  the  way  I  stared  appreciatively.

“Oh,  you  mean  to  save  me  from  the  wound  I  incurred  by  saving  you?”  I  counter  balanced,  batting  my  eyes.

“So,  chivalrous  one  minute,  and  pervert  the  next?”

“I  like  to  think  I’m  well  rounded.”  I  stood,  wobbling  ever  so  slightly  as  I  fought  to  find  my  balance.  “I’m  okay,”  I  said  as  she  hurried  to  hold  onto  me,  wrapping  my  arm  around  her  shoulders.  “Just  watch  out  for  the  trip  wire  next  time,”  I  joked.

“It’s  all  your  fault  anyway.  You  distract  me  too  much,”  she  berated,  heading  into  the  apartment.

I  shook  my  head.  “Says  the  woman  walking  around  half  naked.”    How  was  a  man  to  concentrate  when  the  temptation  of  a  goddess  stood  before  him?
